Аnnually on October 6th, the world celebrates World Habitat Day – an international holiday aimed at drawing attention to the problem of preserving the habitats of the Earth’s fauna. This holiday was established in 1979 within the framework of the Bern Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats. Human activity has long influenced nature, altering it. Each year, more and more territories around the world are transformed into agricultural land, pastures, and undergo changes due to urban growth, mining of natural resources, construction of factories, and other industrial facilities. Therefore, there are practically no places on Earth where human footprints have not set. However, uncontrolled human intervention in the laws and territories of nature has led to the irreversible disappearance of hundreds of species of animals and plants. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), 844 species of animals and plants have become completely extinct in the last 500 years. And these numbers are not final, as numerous species of animals are currently on the brink of extinction. And yet, each extinct species is a palpable and irreparable loss.
